“I joined BatCat because I thought I might wanna be an editor when I grow up,” Henry explained. “Working at a press seemed like a cool job that might be up my alley, and this would be a cool thing to have on college applications.” He added, “Plus, y’know, making books sounds fun.”

His favorite part so far has been going to events. So far, he’s been to both Beaver County BookFest and Handmade Arcade. He’s particularly enjoyed hanging out with his friends, like Alexa and Olivia, and walking around to see all the different storefronts.

“I don’t leave my house, like, ever, and getting out there makes me fell productive and like I’m helping a cause, I guess?” he added, laughing.

He enjoyed Beaver County BookFest in particular because he got to work the button machine. “I gave the kids their papers, and they drew on them, which was really fun because they make these really poorly drawn pictures, and I love it—it’s just so great.” He continued, “I like seeing the kids; they get so happy when you hand them a button.”

However, BatCat has been a little bit different than he expected. “There’s a lot more math involved than I thought there would be,” he said, “and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, and I’m doing okay, but I was expecting it to be, like, y’know, artsy and interpretive, and, ‘put this here, we’ll hope it works out,’ but no, it’s very scientific. It makes good books, but it’s also hard.”

On his art: “It’s kinda fun to add legs to things that shouldn’t have legs. It elicits a reaction, and isn’t that what art is supposed to do?”

“I’m looking forward to knowing more things, and being able to contribute more than I can now. I wanna learn how to use the printing press more, too, because I’ve on;y set one [chase] so far, and it was pretty fun, so I’m excited to have the opportunity to do more.” He added, “And not being the most inexperienced person here.”
