The Making of…

Some people seem surprised when they pick up a copy of The One That Counts and we tell them that the covers are handmade. But it’s true – here’s a sneak peek at how it works:

We begin with “raw” materials: uncut book board, Italian book cloth, paper, and glue. After everything is measured and precisely cut to size, construction begins:

Each cover uses 3 boards: two covers and a spine piece. These are precisely affixed to strips of Italian book cloth.

Once the boards are in place, cover papers are glued to the boards… which is a bit trickier than it sounds.

Corners are cut, and the cover begins to take shape. A little extra time is spent making sure the corners are folded properly. After a bit more gluing, the cover is complete and ready for text block attachment… which is a whole different story.
